Riding FAQ

What's the time commitment?

Rides vary depending on the cause we’re supporting. Some rides may even include more than one stop. When you receive an invite for a ride, it will have details on timing and how many stops we’ll be making. In general, the time commitment is 4 to 5 hours.

Typically, our private rides are 5 hours from pick up to drop off and are usually from 10am – 3pm. However, this time can be adjusted to fit your needs.

What are GOOD categories?

Most of our rides have a GOOD category to give you an idea of what to expect.

GOOD PEOPLE
This trip category is used for trips centered around helping people and will sometimes include interacting with people but can also be visiting a cause who’s mission to help other people.

GOOD BOY
Like, GOOD PEOPLE, this trip is centered around interaction with people, but the small kind…the child. It is not necessary to have had prior experience working with children, but a genuine interest in working and interacting with kids helps. Sometimes visiting a GOOD BOY cause will simply be helping the overall mission of the cause and not necessarily interacting with children.

GOOD EARTH
This category is for trips focused on our environment and could be anything from gardening to beach clean ups.

GOOD DOG
Ya know, helping the four-legged types.

GOOD HANDS
These events will usually involve building or making something — with your hands.

Are there age requirements to ride the bus?

The Do Good Bus is all ages, but sometimes the causes we visit will have age requirements. For our public rides, we always post what the age requirements are (if any). Depending on the cause, sometimes a signed waiver from a parent will also work.

What should I wear?

Typically, rides are very causal. You might be helping people in a homeless shelter, gardening at a school or working outdoors on a building site. When you receive your invite for the ride, there will be specific details and suggestions on what to wear. However, we always suggest bringing layers and wearing closed-toed shoes.

What should I bring?

You won’t need much for our rides. Do Good Bus is committed to eliminating plastic bottles from our events, and thanks to our partnership with MaCher we have Do Good Bus water canteens for all participants. We’ll have water for you all day to refill.

Any personal items you do bring can be left on the bus and will be secure with one of our staff members. Some rides may require gloves, craft materials or special tools…but your confirmation email will have a special request for those items if they’re needed.

Why are the locations a secret? Can you give me a hint?

Maybe a small one.

Everyone likes a little mystery, right?

For our Community Rides, we keep our rides a secret to add an element of fun, but also to avoid any pre-conceived ideas or opinions about the causes we visit. This allows volunteers to show up with an open mind ready to help.

For our Hosted and Business Rides, we try to stick to this model, but it’s not a requirement.  We’re happy to work with you to find the right type of cause for your group and you can keep it a secret from your guests if you want or tell them where we’re headed.

Does the cost of the ticket include a donation to the cause we visit?

Yes! A percentage of your individual ticket or flat fee cost (for Hosted and Business Rides) goes directly to the cause you visit with the bus. Do Good Bus is also a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and the fee you pay is a donation.

Who has done Hosted or Business Time rides in the past?

When we’re not hosting our Community Rides for the public, we partner with companies and groups to take them on Business Time Rides and Hosted Rides throughout their cities. We’ve worked with some pretty amazing groups and celebrated a lot of birthdays on the bus!
