Community Rides

We host a public community ride every month in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Activities range from working with kids to building new homes to creating guerrilla gardens. We attach a GOOD CATEGORY to each ride to give you can idea of what type of activity you’ll be doing. Typically, the location is a secret (here’s why) and each ride lasts between 4 and 6 hours depending on the location. Most rides have an option to add lunch on the bus or you can bring your own.

Please be sure to reference your confirmation email for exact pick up location for your ride. However, for our Community Rides we typically pick up at one of the following locations. These locations were precisely picked to entice you to use public transportation (don’t be scared!). There is also ample/free parking at both of these locations.

Culver City Expo Line Parking Lot
8800 block of West Washington Blvd, at the corner of Washington and National.

Universal City Metro Parking Lot (Kiss ‘N Ride)
3901 Lankershim Boulevard, Studio City

Anxious to get on the bus now? You can always plan a hosted ride for your friends, family or employees.

Riding FAQ

What's the time commitment?

Rides vary depending on the cause we’re supporting. Some rides may even include more than one stop. When you receive an invite for a ride, it will have details on timing and how many stops we’ll be making. In general, the time commitment is 4 to 5 hours.

What are GOOD categories?

Most of our rides have a GOOD category to give you an idea of what to expect.

GOOD PEOPLE
This trip category is used for trips centered around helping people and will usually include large amounts of personal interaction with people you may have just met.

GOOD BOY
Like, GOOD PEOPLE, this trip is centered around interaction with people, but the small kind…the child. It is not necessary to have had prior experience working with children, but a genuine interest and sometimes a California Live Scan will be required.

GOOD EARTH
This category is for trips focused on our environment and could be anything from gardening to beach clean ups.

GOOD DOG
Ya know, helping the four-legged types.

GOOD HANDS
These events will usually involve building or making something — with your hands.

What should I wear?

Typically, rides are very causal. You might be helping people in a homeless shelter, gardening at a school or working outdoors on a building site. When you receive your invite for the ride, there will be specific details and suggestions on what to wear. However, we always suggest bringing layers and wearing closed-toed shoes.

What should I bring?

You won’t need much for our rides. However, Do Good Bus is committed to eliminating plastic bottles from our events — so PLEASE BRING A REUSABLE CONTAINER to fill with water.   You can also purchase one of our Do Good Bus Mason Jars if you’d like.

Any personal items you do bring can be left on the bus and will be secure with one of our staff members. Some rides may require gloves, craft materials or special tools…but your confirmation email will have a special request for those items if they’re needed.

Why are the locations a secret? Can you give me a hint?

Maybe a small one.

Everyone likes a little mystery, right?

For our Community Rides, we keep our rides a secret to add an element of fun, but also to avoid any pre-conceived ideas or opinions about the causes we visit. This allows volunteers to show up with an open mind ready to help.

For our Hosted and Business Rides, we try to stick to this model, but it’s not a requirement.  We’re happy to work with you to find the right type of cause for your group and you can keep it a secret from your guests if you want or tell them where we’re headed.

Does the cost of the ticket include a donation to the cause we visit?

Yes! A percentage of your individual ticket or flat fee cost (for Hosted and Business Rides) goes directly to the cause you visit with the bus. Do Good Bus is also a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and the fee you pay is a donation.
